Earlier this year I broke my foot, and subsequently needed surgery to insert some hardware and stabilize my bones. Like the pandemic, this injury has forced me to slow down mentally, socially, professionally, and (obviously) physically. While I’ve grown weary of the stillness – I’ve also learned to embrace and appreciate the time I have to be fully present with my family; observing every detail and absorbing every memory.
In the workforce, slowing down is rarely encouraged or recommended. However, I would argue that it is often necessary, and allows for a refocus of priorities and preparation for re-entry from a healthier perspective.
